Electronic Cigarettes’ Environmental Benefits
Goodyear, AZ - The electronic cigarette is better for the environment than its tobacco counterparts, observes the Red Dragon electric cigarette company. It is better for indoor air quality, users’ hygiene and the earth as a whole.
Waste: Cigarettes create a lot of waste. Many smokers carelessly throw cigarette butts on the ground, creating litter. And many of these butts also wash into rivers and lakes, polluting them. Even butts that are properly disposed of clutter up landfills - as does the cigarette packaging. The average smoker will smoke half a million cigarettes in a lifetime. And every year American smokers generate 2 billion pounds of cigarette butts. That’s a lot of trash. While tobacco and paper are biodegradable, filters are not. And cigarette components contain the dangerous chemicals found in tobacco; wherever the butts are discarded, those chemicals leech into the ground.
Electronic cigarettes, on the other hand, use a small battery which can be recharged at an outlet, car lighter, or USB port. There is no need to purchase and discard matches or lighters. The only parts of the electric cig that need to be replaced are the ecig battery and stainless steel cartridge. However, each cartridge lasts as long as 15-20 tobacco cigarettes, while the batteries need replacing infrequently. All the components are recyclable - and are less likely to be discarded improperly than cigarette butts.
Air Quality: Our electric cigarettes contain a mixture of water, flavoring, nicotine (or no nicotine if the user prefers) and propylene glycol. Obviously, inhaling a little secondhand water vapor from someone’s electric cigarette is quite different from smoke. Propylene glycol is a chemical used in many everyday items including food, medicine, toothpaste, beer, mouthwash and cosmetics.
In contrast, tobacco cigarettes contain more than 4,000 chemicals, many of which are known to be harmful and carcinogenic. Not only do they damage the health of the people smoking them, but they can cause health problems through secondhand smoke. That is why tobacco smoking is banned in so many public locations. Electronic cigarettes, however, are smarter to use anywhere. You won’t be releasing dangerous chemicals or noxious odors into the air.
“Using our electric cigarettes is a way of caring both for those around you and for the environment as a whole,” notes Nick Evans from Red Dragon, which also makes a mini electronic cigarette.
