Electric Cigarette Liquids Are Secret Behind Quality In Smokeless Vapor
GOODYEAR, ARIZONA - The growing popularity of electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes has increased the drive in competition and quality among manufacturers to produce a more authentic smoking experience for consumers. The key element dictating the quality of the experience in smoking an electric cigarette is the electronic cigarette liquid.
Nick Evans, vice president of operations at Red Dragon, a leading electric cigarette manufacturer based in Arizona, comments on the use of e-liquid in the electronic cigarette cartridge to create this desired experience.
“Electronic cigarette liquid, or e-liquid, is the source of vapor in smokeless cigarettes,” says Evans. “The liquid is heated by an atomizer which then produces the vapor. It is the quality of the e-liquid ingredients which determines how clean and thick the vapor will be.”
“Vaping” has become the popular term used for smoking electronic cigarettes since no secondhand smoke is produced through the vapor- the smoke-like substance exhaled when you smoke an electronic cigarette. The quality of the vapor density and flavor is greatly influenced by the quality of the e-liquid.
The base ingredient of the liquid in the cigarette cartridge is propylene glycol. This is used as a carrier of the cartridge ingredients and as a vapor producer similar to what is used in theatrical smoke machines.
Most people will make contact with propylene glycol during their normal, everyday life. It’s commonly used as a moisturizer in many personal care items like creams, sprays and lotions, and as a flavor carrier in soft drinks, sweets and other foods. Propylene glycol is also used in pharmaceuticals to dissolve and equally distribute the active ingredients in medications.
One of the key elements to a satisfying vaping experience is the ability to taste the flavor and density of the vapor that is received while inhaling. This is called the “throat hit.”
“It’s the difference between feeling like you have inhaled something versus merely sucking in air through a straw,” says Evans. “Thick vapor production is an important factor in a quality e-liquid.”
Electronic cigarette cartridges have a life of about 10-15 cigarettes, depending on your smoking habits. Most find that the battery dies before the cartridge runs out of e-liquid, resulting in the need for a recharge before a refill. Electric cigarettes come in kits equipped with extra cartridges and an ecig charger for this very purpose.
You may find it more convenient and affordable than conventional cigarettes to purchase several flavors of cartridges or to use e-liquids to refill the cartridges in your ecig kits.
“Refilling cartridges yourself can save you significant money,” says Evans. “The average 5ml bottle of e-liquid provides vaping time equivalent to around 5 packs of tobacco cigarettes. Comparing the costs of refilling cartridges with e-liquid to purchasing conventional cigarettes, you could save an estimated $6-$7 per pack.”
However persuasive the savings, flavor and thickness of vapor seem to be the deciding factors for consumers. Cartridges are refillable and the e-liquids are available in a variety of flavors. Regular tobacco, menthol, cherry and vanilla are among the more popular choices.
Various strengths of nicotine in the e-liquids are available as well ranging in five common levels from nicotine-free (0mg) to extra-high (24mg). This allows the smoker the option of managing their nicotine intake.
